Today I solved the battery issue by using a mobile phone power bank charge unit, so the pi is now completely portable. In order to test the portability and the functionality of the camera module itself, I tested the camera by going to Green Park just as it was getting dark to do the first recording tests. This test was useful, as it highlighted the fact that I could possibly make it even more portable at a later point by installing touch-screen capabilities to the screen, to bypass the requirement for a keyboard and mouse. These pieces of hardware are unfortunately a necessary inclusion in order to run the time-lapse functionality so cannot be completely removed.
